So I don't know how many of you play online RPGs (not like WOW but ones that you actually write) but if you've ever played one that has a specific theme you know how restricting the character roles can be. With war RPGs your players are fighters who know how to kill people and there's little room for pansy politicians and the kid who plays those later characters usually don't have much to do unless they make their own events or get to interact briefly with the majority. Fantasy characters do this with humans and pirates do this with navy officers... or ninjas.
The same is true with steampunk RPGs. One is expected to be a mechanical genius who can rant about tools and machines for days. Well I was on Gaia and joined up a steampunk guild and then went on to join an RPG called "Khaos". There wasn't much of a plot but the characters looked fun to play with so I started to make a character. Now of course there were countless smithy, tech, and other gadgety worded jobs and everything that wasn't- gunner and cook for example- had been filled. I don't have much time on my hands anymore to spend forever BSing technical posts so I signed on as the medic. Because that's joing to be so much easier, yeah? lol
Well it turns out that roles like medic and cook are like the politicians.
I love my chick. Since I'm lazy I'm just going to paste the blurb I wrote for her.
"Doctor Abigail Tennant- A short, stocky woman who refuses to play damsel in distress (even when she happens to be exactly that) and prefers to insist that she can find a better way out of the situation than you. It is best that observers overlook her stubborn nature and just move her out of the way before the giant robot squishes her. After one gets past that though, Abigail is generally very charming and can act a perfect lady when called for. In regards to her practice, well, lets just say that Abigail is "Not That Kind of Doctor". Originally she got her PhD in Archeology but the men in her field refused to let a woman in on the grandest adventures, despite wittiness and years of study. Determined not to be left behind and ignored, Abigail began to insist that she was a nonexpendable asset to the team and boasted about a nonexistent knowledge of medicine. Turns out Abigail was quite good at playing doctor and was able to spend a lot of time learning the ins and outs of the game enough so that she could fool the fellows. Unfortunately after nearly half a year of trial and error learning Abigail was found out and sent back home. Once there though, she forced herself under the wing of a local physician and learned the trade. Since then she has left his employ, missing the thrill of adventure again."
Anyway, I'm not really complaining about my role, I'm loud enough to keep people from forgetting about me completely and have indeed begun to form a blackmarket subplot- with or without their support. I figure if others want to get in on it great but if not it gives me something to do while everyone else is off playing with robots and flying the ship. I refuse to just sit about the medbay hoping somebody got stabbed.
I actually just had an interesting series of events, got back from shady dealers, nearly got stabbed by a new and suspicious recruit, popped the guy's shoulder, yanked a large gear out of a girl's arm and had an intense moment with the ship's gunner (the guy in the mask). But everybody left the medbay so I feel downtime approaching again so I did this comic about how it feels when everyone else is doing stuff and embellished.
Thank you Miss Sharp! I regret not having met you onboard but before you came on my finals were coming up so I slipped off the ship for a while. Of course now there's just so much chaos I simply have no idea where to jump back in! Haha. I suppose I'll fiddle with my semi-side story and climb back on the ship. I shall see you there! ^^
